The Duplex Seminar and Summit 2012, organised by Stainless Steel World and held on 26th and 27th September in Stresa, Italy proved to be a most successful event.
The main purpose of the Seminar and Summit was to bring together the global duplex community to exchange information and build business relationships. Networking lounges around the venue provided areas where attendees could talk and hold meetings in an informal but discreet atmosphere.
The lounges provided opportunities for face-to-face communication in addition to the traditional exhibition stands and underscored the importance of personal relationships in this niche market.
Around 450 participants – delegates, exhibitors, and visitors – attended the event and benefit from the organiser’s focus to provide a setting which had a focus on personal contact and information exchange.
The Brown McFarlane Exhibition Stand
Brown McFarlane, which has developed over the last few years in to a significant supplier and processor of duplex and super duplex steel plates, had an exhibition stand at the event. The company felt it was a real opportunity to get close to the “movers and shakers” in the industry and build on its understanding of both the product and its markets.
David Smith, Sales Director – Stainless Steel, was delighted with our participation. “We are much more than just a stockholder of these materials and this event gave us the opportunity to demonstrate this by discussing the technical issues surrounding these complex materials and contributing our own views and experiences”.
The Duplex Seminar
Led by Conference Chairman Sytze Huizinga from Shell Projects & Technology, the Seminar concentrated on practical experience of duplex use and drew in many end-users, manufacturers, and researchers from around the world.
Delegates could choose between a range of interactive workshops or educational Master Classes. The workshop presenters gave an in depth perspective on the practical production and application of duplex in a range of industries. With all of the workshops being filled to capacity, delegates declared the seminar a resounding success.
A highlight during the Seminar was the popular Speakers Corner, where Benedikt Blitz from SMR presented a market outlook for duplex stainless steel to 2020. He provided an interesting glimpse into both the past history and future prospects for duplex and painted a hopeful picture for the years ahead.
With Stresa resting on the shores of the magnificent Lago Maggiore, attendees were treated to an informal networking dinner on the beautiful island of Isola Bella. Despite the temperamental weather, boats ferried the dinner guests without incident to the island where they were greeted by the Duplex Seminar & Summit Team. After sampling local treats and enjoying a glass or two of prosecco, all proceeded into the restaurant for a delicious Italian meal featuring food from the region and accompanied by live jazz music.
Stainless Steel World will organize The Duplex World Seminar & Summit 2014 in the same location, maintaining an international platform for the on-going technical and commercial exchange of information on duplex stainless steels.
