The grade BS 1501 223 490B LT30 shows that the steel will have a minimum tensile strength of 490 N/mm2 (490), suitable for use where elevated temperature properties are required, and has low temperature impact properties specified at -30 deg C (LT30). BS 1501 225 490B LT50 Pressure Vessel Steel Specification

BS 1501 Grade 225 specifies the requirements for fully killed niobium and aluminium treated carbon manganese steel plates up to 150 mm thick in two grades. The plates may be supplied having specified low temperature impact properties and elevated temperature properties.

The grade BS 1501 225 490B LT50 shows that the steel will have a minimum tensile strength of 490 N/mm2 (490), has elevated temperature properties reported (B), and has low temperature impact properties specified at -50 deg C (LT50).

Stainless Steel Plate

Stainless steels are defined as ferrous alloys with the addition of at least 10.5% chromium by weight and are essentially low carbon steels containing significant amounts of chromium. It is the addition of chromium that gives this type of steel its corrosion resisting properties.

The chromium content of the steel allows the formation of an invisible corrosion resistant chromium oxide film on the steel surface. If damaged mechanically or chemically this film is self-healing providing that oxygen, even in very small amounts, is present. The corrosion resistance of stainless steel can be enhanced along with providing other useful properties by increasing the chromium content and by adding other elements such as molybdenum, nickel, and nitrogen.
