Working with us full time in our CAD department while studying with Newcastle Under Lyme College , Josh is learning how to apply the theory he has been taught in his course to use our CAD software, creating bespoke drawings for customers parts.

Creating a piece of art for our MD’s office has been one of Josh’s tasks during his apprenticeship. Testing his creativity and design skills as well as ability to use our CAD software. With guidance from CAD Manager - Ant Ellis, Josh has continued to progress his skills and has now completed his task of creating a design for our MD's office wall without fault.

Josh’s new design considers various areas of the Brown McFarlane business while still including our current branding. The addition of the words “Plasma, Gas, Drill, Bevel, Laser, Waterjet” help to showcase what it is that we can do at Brown McFarlane in a processing sense. As well as this, Josh has added a transport image to the top of the art piece, enabling customers to see that we can not only cut and process steel plates but transport these worldwide. If you would like to know more about our processing options available check out this link.

Speaking of Josh, our CAD Manager Ant Ellis had this to say… “By creating the design he has learned a lot about the materials used and the machine process. Josh has exceeded everyone’s expectations and continues to produce very good work.” Josh presented his final piece to our Managing Director, Tony O’Reilly recently, with the final piece now on his office wall. Tony had this to say about Josh’s work…

“Josh joined Brown McFarlane as an apprentice in July 2017 and is now a valued member of the CAD team, he is becoming proficient at interpreting customer requirements and producing drawing programs for the machines. As part of his ongoing development he was set the challenge of creating a piece of artwork for my office. He has come up with a business relevant design, which was cut on the laser and then sent for polishing. The end result is a spectacular wall feature. Well done Josh!”

Brown McFarlane is committed to our apprentices, giving them opportunities to develop rewarding careers and empowering our workforce to progress with new skills. Would you like to know more about apprentices at Brown McFarlane? Check our Twitter page.
