More information

Brown McFarlane specialises in chrome moly plates
o Intended primarily for use in the fabrication of process equipment designed for elevated temperature service.
o Chrome moly is the most common name for this group but other names that are used include chromalloy, croalloy, and Cr-Mo (pronounced “cro-mo”).

  • Chrome Moly Plates.

There are many chromium molybdenum steel products available, each of which has very different chemical and mechanical properties, but they are often grouped as a single category.
Chrome Moly plates from Brown McFarlane are manufactured to the following steel standards:
    ASME SA387, ASTM A387, EN10028-2.

  • What do chromium and molybdenum do to steel?

The addition to steel of the alloys chromium and molybdenum bring characteristics which are particularly desirable for units operating in high temperatures. Both alloys improve high temperature strength, molybdenum improves high temperature creep strength, both improve hardenability and there are additional benefits from wear resistance, corrosion resistance, and impact resistance. At the same time a chrome moly alloy is relatively easy to fabricate.

The Brown McFarlane range is available from our U.K. service centre in Stoke-on-Trent. As well as being available from stock, steel plate can be cut to size and shape according to your fabrication and design requirements and all work is governed by our independently accredited and regularly audited quality systems to ISO 9001.
Our plates are sourced from the highest quality steel manufacturers in the world and, like all our suppliers, these manufacturers have been vetted and assessed by our procurement team.
Brown McFarlane’s extensive supply partnerships with many of Europe’s leading steel plate manufacturers offer the opportunity for us to supply non-stock items or non-standard sizes directly from the steel mill to our customers. Using this form of supply it is often possible to deliver much faster than “standard” mill lead times.
All of our plates and plate products can be delivered to customers anywhere in the world using the services of our own in-house logistics staff.
